Meet the Author

Naira Solis is an environmental journalist and author who has spent over a decade living and working across Africa. Originally from Lisbon, Portugal, she first traveled to Kenya as a graduate student researching wildlife conservation. What began as an academic pursuit soon became a calling. Immersed in the field, she followed elephant herds shadowed by rangers on anti-poaching missions, and witnessed firsthand the human and ecological cost of the ivory trade. These experiences shaped her debut book Ivory Dreams, a deeply reported and emotionally charged exploration of the people and animals caught in this deadly economy. Today, Solis divides her time between Nairobi and Lisbon, advocating for ethical conservation and storytelling that bridges compassion and accountability.
